The 34th Annual Victorian Algebra Conference is to be held this year at La Trobe University City Campus, 360 Collins St, Melbourne on Tuesday 22 November – Wednesday 23 November, 2016. (Note the non-standard days of the week.)
Information about the conference, including links for registration and submission of abstracts can be found at the conference website:
________________________________
Registration (to be paid at the conference, not via the online registration):
Free to members of the Victorian Algebra Group (VAG) and to all students.
Members of the AustMS who are not members of the Victorian Algebra Group: $15
Non-members of the AustMS: $20
Note that for members of the AustMS it is cheaper for you (and much better for the VAG) if you join the VAG via the AustMS rather than register for the conference.
________________________________
The aim of the annual Victorian Algebra Conference is to foster communication between algebraists in Australia in general and in Victoria in particular. We interpret algebra quite broadly, including areas such as topological algebra, algebraic logic, graph theory and coding theory. The conference is run by the Victorian Algebra Group, which has been a special interest group of the Australian Mathematical Society since 1988.
We particularly encourage talks by students. Most students talk about original research undertaken as part of their thesis, but beginning students can give a survey talk on their thesis topic. Students who give a talk may be eligible for the Gordon Preston Prize. See the following website for details of the prize:
Please note that students and unemployed mathematicians who attend the Victorian Algebra Conference may be eligible for a small travel contribution.
There will be a conference dinner on the evening of Tuesday November 22. Students will be subsidized.
The Annual General Meeting of the Victorian Algebra Group will be held at lunchtime on the first day.
Please register at http://vac2016.ltumathstats.com/and let us know if you intend to give a talk.
